The project

Harbor is a free, open source app made by people who give it their time. There is no company or CEO behind the project, and no dedicated privacy team or legal department. It is software you can download, build, and run on your own device.

Harbor is intended for personal, private use, including offline use with your own media. Online features are optional and need a connection. The project is not a subscription to a media service, and downloading the app does not give you a right to someone else's content.

This page describes the project and the responsibilities around using it. Being free, open source, or run by volunteers does not remove anyone's obligations under applicable law.

Your media and sources

Use only files, accounts, and sources you have the legal right to use. That includes media you created, public domain works, material shared under a suitable license, and services that authorize your access.

Harbor does not supply a streaming library, host the movies, shows, or books you access, or operate a public index of playable media sources. Content comes from your local files, your media servers, or the providers and sources you choose to connect.

You are responsible for your source selection, credentials, downloads, sharing, and other actions, including changes you make to the software. A working link, a search result, a subscription, or an item appearing in the interface is not, by itself, proof that you have permission to use it. Follow the relevant licenses, service terms, and laws where you use the app.

The project does not authorize infringement, unauthorized access, or unlawful circumvention of access controls. Maintainers do not provide unauthorized sources or assistance finding them.

Connected services

Addons, plugins, IPTV playlists, trackers, metadata providers, and media servers have their own operators and terms. Compatibility with a service does not mean that the service endorses Harbor or has authorized every possible use of it. You must obtain any permissions, accounts, subscriptions, or licenses your use requires.

TMDB, IMDb, and other metadata providers supply information about works, such as titles, artwork, and ratings. Showing that information does not supply the work itself or grant viewing or redistribution rights. The provider's terms and applicable rights still apply.

The built-in torrent engine uses librqbit on your device. It is a transfer component, not a Harbor-hosted source of content. Peer-to-peer transfers communicate with other participants and may upload data as part of the protocol. Connected services, peers, and network operators may see network information such as your IP address.

Third-party services control their content, availability, prices, accounts, and data practices. Harbor cannot promise that a service will remain available, keep working, or return accurate or suitable results. Links and logos identify compatibility or attribution; they are not guarantees.

Software license

Harbor's own source code is distributed under the MIT License. It permits use, modification, redistribution, and commercial use, subject to its conditions. Copies or substantial portions of the software must include the copyright notice and permission notice.

The project's preference for personal use is a statement of purpose, not an added restriction on the MIT License. This page does not relicense the code, remove existing permissions, or replace the license distributed with your copy.

Dependencies and bundled components have their own licenses. Some impose additional notice, source-code, or redistribution requirements. Artwork and names

Illustrations, icons, animations, fonts, screenshots, posters, and other creative work may have terms separate from the software license. Check the applicable credit and license before reusing an asset. Attribution is not a substitute for permission. The contributors page credits the artists who worked on Harbor.

Service names, logos, and other third-party marks belong to their respective owners. They are used for identification, compatibility, and attribution. Harbor is independent of Stremio Ltd. and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Stremio, Nuvio, TMDB, IMDb, or other referenced providers unless a specific relationship is expressly identified.

A fork or redistribution must not falsely imply endorsement by the original contributors or by a third party. An open source code license does not, by itself, grant rights to someone else's trademarks.

Privacy and disclosure

Local files and local playback are different from optional online features. Harbor account, profile, sync, community, and reporting features can transmit and retain data needed for those features. Depending on what you enable or submit, that can include account and profile information, selected settings, shared items, watched-title markers, and bug-report contents. Local-only storage does not describe those online features.

We do not voluntarily provide private account or settings data to copyright complainants merely because they ask for it. A copyright complaint is not, on its own, permission to disclose a user's private information. Information may still be processed to provide features you request, shared at your direction or with your consent, or disclosed when applicable law or valid legal process requires it.

We cannot provide information we do not hold. That is not a promise that no records exist: the data you submit, optional sync features, and the practices of hosting and service providers matter. Harbor cannot make disclosure or retention promises on behalf of GitHub, ElfHosted, or any other operator.

Do not put passwords, API keys, private source URLs, or unrelated personal information in a public issue or copyright report. Read the privacy page and the policies of services you connect. Using the app does not make your network activity anonymous.

Copyright concerns

We respect the rights of creators. Maintainers will cooperate with valid copyright notices and applicable legal requirements, including correcting or removing infringing material within their control where required. A claim should identify the specific material and where it is hosted so the right operator can review it.

Material hosted on GitHub

For repository files, releases, or other material on GitHub, use GitHub's content removal process. Its policies provide the submission and counter-notice routes. GitHub may publish redacted notices and share complete notices with affected parties; read its policy before submitting.

Material hosted by ElfHosted

For a specific service, endpoint, or item actually hosted by ElfHosted, use its published abuse and legal-request channels. Include the affected URL and follow the requirements for that service. ElfHosted is a hosting provider, not Harbor's legal representative.

Material from another source

Contact the operator or host of the addon, website, playlist, or service supplying it. Displaying a provider's result in Harbor does not give Harbor control over that provider's files or infrastructure.

Follow the receiving platform's instructions. A formal notice generally needs identification of the protected work and disputed material, its location, a signature, contact information, and the required good-faith and accuracy statements.

For an ordinary attribution or licensing concern in Harbor itself, you can also identify the relevant file or asset in the project's issue tracker. Issues are public; use the host's designated route for formal notices containing personal details.

These links describe where to report material. They do not appoint GitHub or ElfHosted as Harbor's own designated agent, guarantee a particular legal outcome, or transfer the project's legal obligations to its hosts.

Contributions and forks

Submit only work you have the right to contribute. Identify adapted code, dependencies, artwork, and their licenses. Using an LLM does not remove those requirements or the need to understand and test the result. Our contributor guidance explains the expectations.

Forks, plugins, modified builds, and separately operated services are the responsibility of their own authors and operators. Original contributors do not review or control every copy of the code. No contribution creates an employment, agency, or partnership relationship merely by being submitted or accepted.

Contributors work in their own time. There is no paid support contract or promise of updates, response times, continuing maintenance, compatibility, or acceptance of a contribution. Any required legal obligations still apply.

Warranty and liability

The software is provided “as is,” without warranty. The MIT License disclaims express and implied warranties, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and noninfringement. It also limits the liability of authors and copyright holders for claims or damages arising from the software or its use.

To the extent permitted by applicable law, contributors do not accept liability for users' source choices or unlawful acts, third-party content or services, modified copies, interruptions, or loss of data resulting from use of the software. You are responsible for keeping appropriate backups and deciding whether a version is suitable for your needs.

These exclusions apply only as far as the law allows. Nothing on this page excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, waives non-waivable consumer or privacy rights, or excuses anyone from their own legal obligations. The exact license terms distributed with your copy remain controlling.

This notice applies to the Harbor project and this website. It does not set the terms for independent forks or third-party services. The laws that apply depend on the people, services, conduct, and jurisdictions involved.

Changes to this page will be reflected in the date above. They do not retroactively revoke permissions already granted under an open source license. If part of this notice is unenforceable, that does not expand it beyond what applicable law permits.
